OrthoScan HD

Robert H. Kang, M.D., FACS

The OrthoScan mini c‑arm has increased my operating room efficiency. This unit has a small footprint freeing valuable OR and storage space. It is light weight, durable, and reliable – start up time occurs in seconds as opposed to other units that depend upon Windows XP software.

The HD imaging technology provides brilliant images of small bone trabaculae even when surrounded by drills and cords… I’ve never seen such image detail with any other c‑arm unit, both large and small. The arm has an impressive vertical range allowing for imaging anatomy high and low if the need arises. Both live “real time” imaging and “single shots” are excellent.

I suspect that there really is something to be said about the “HD” imaging of this machine… It’s like watching Monday night football in HD… there is no substitute.

I have been using the new OrthoScan Mini C‑Arm for two years at an outpatient surgical center. I do not think there is much comparison to the other units I have used in the past. The unit is so user friendly and lightweight that it almost stands alone as a different product. Gone are the hassles of moving a heavy and, at times, uncooperative c‑arm. It is much easier to position on the table. The quality of the image has always been consistent. We have not had any downtime for even minor problems. I give it my highest recommendations.

In my opinion, OrthoScan is a significant improvement over other mini c‑arm units. Specifically, its larger image and extremely clear picture quality make it a lot easier to evaluate the reduction of complex wrist fractures and the position of implants with a wide perspective. No more guess work on trying to get the image in the center of the screen.

In addition, its light weight makes it ideal in the training room. I use it all the time to screen potential injuries in the collegiate players and it is very easy to transport from arena to arena. Its wide arc makes it easy to image both the knee and shoulder.

It’s OrthoScan’s attention to detail that produced a simplified keyboard so easy an orthopaedic surgeon can run the machine and alter the images to improve picture detail.
